The Early Years department for children aged 3 to 5 is called the Foundation Stage and follows the England National Curriculum Early Year Foundation Scheme, EYFS It is designed to prepare children for the National Curriculum for England, which begins in Year 1 and continues through Key Stage 1(Year 1-2), Key Stage 2 (Year 3-6) and Key Stage 3 (Year 7-9)
In the Foundation Stage, the child’s progress is closely monitored using classroom monitor and assessed against appropriate age performance standards. Every encouragement and help is provided for children to attain their full potential. Focusing on whole-child development, attention is given to assessing the social development, skills, knowledge and understanding that children need to interact efficiently in a complex and changing world. Children in the Early Years are introduced to the foundations of reading, writing, science, mathematics, information and communications technology, and physical/creative development through a system of practical applications, which is strengthened in a positive and stimulating learning environment. Arabic is taught to all children and Islamic studies is included for Muslim children.
Children learn best when they actively participate in the learning process. Learning, through structured play and a regular programme of field trips form part of the Early Years curriculum. Supported by a well-resourced library, ICT facilities, music studio and designated playground, the children in the Early Years are encouraged to explore and develop their natural abilities and talents.
